Gift Cert emailed to friend gets linked to buyers login?

I'm testing my gift certificates. Sent one off to one of my other emails. Once I received it I clicked on the link to redeem it and it linked me back to the customers login that sent it 'which was me'. I then click continue and the total of that gift gets put back on the buyer total.
This is insane. for 1..the person being sent the GV now has access to someone elses shopping cart and GV account.
What have I done wrong.

Not sure what you mean here.

Do you mean that when you hit the login page after clicking the redeem link, that it filled in with your login info (by your browser which has remembered your login name by your request)? Then clicking continue logged you in as 'you'?

Just to expand a bit more on this.

GV redeem codes are not tied to a particular user. So its possible for user B to redeem a GV code that was sent to user A.

This is analogous to some one dropping and loosing a Gift Card, and some one else picking it up.

However what you are describing is slightly different.

I would expect it's because you are testing all of this using the same browser, and either you still are logged in as a the 'you' user, or your browser is 'filling in' the email/password credentials.

A standard GV redeem link contains no user related data.

Sorry I worked out what it was.
After I sent the voucher I didn't logoff soooo when I clicked the link to redeem the voucher in the receivers email it just went straight through and opened the test customer that I hadn't logged out off.
Sometime I need to get away from what I'm doing and when I'm not thinking about the problem it seems to just dawn on me.
