red flag Site Down! Please Help!

    Hi,

I just finished upgrading my site from v1.3.8 to 1.3.8a using WinMerge as DrByte suggested from this post (scroll to #2).

Then I went here and applied some of the fixes to known bugs for v1.3.8/v1.3.8a. I applied them according to this, and a few others but stuck to the required mostly.

Then I went to my site, http://www. a u t o m o t i v e a c e.com and it came up as . With the site being blank I am thinking but that I probably have a blank space from one of the pages that I edited to during the upgrading process.

Is there a tool available that I can use to find which file or files are causing this and that will provide the solution to fix the file or files.

The site is down for maintenance, I have not gone 'Live' yet, still doing some prep work.

Thanks in advance for any and all help.

Grab the debug utility for the free software add ons tab above.

You could also go to admin (if that is up) and in Tools - Developers Tool and enter the text to see what file this is in.

That weird text is the UTF-8 BOM inserted by your editor. What editor are you using to edit your files?

I'm not sure if the developers toolkit will find that marker.

The toolkit did in fact find the errors, it listed 2 files and the results were:
    Line #0 : <?php

    Any ideas?

    I am using Notepad ++

In those two files just remove the characters and see what happens.

red flag Re: Site Down! Please Help!

I just downloaded the 2 files that the developer's toolkit gave me and looked at them in Notepad++ and in the lower right corner it says: UTF-8

Should I just resave them in ANSI and see if that solves the problem?

    It would be ANSI, right?
    Thank you,

Am not sure what Notepad++ is, but try opening those two files with it again and resave them as ANSI.

This should be an option (hopefully) in your editor.

Try "save as" or its equiv in your editor.

Unfortunatly you can't simply edit out the BOM. It's more like meta-data inserted by the editor itself. They won't show up in the editor when you re-open the file.

Good for document editing, stinks for programming.

Thank you kiddo, thanks for the heads up about the UTF-8 symbol and text editor. I simply resaved in ANSI, uploaded and problem solved! Thanks again, I am taking note of this, in case it pops up again.
