Question about flat rate shipping and international orders

I have a very simple thing I want to do. I want to charge a flat rate shipping/handling fee for all local (U.S.) orders, independent of quantity, weight, etc. It's just flat $6 no matter how many products are ordered.

I want to do the same thing for International orders, but slightly higher flat rate S/H fee.

Setting this up looks to be a bit time consuming, as it looks like I have to manually type in EVERY single country abbreviation that's not the U.S., and there are about 180 countries listed. Is there a fast & easy way to set this up? The Zones & Definitions are confusing to say the least. I just want to set up so that ALL orders shipped to anywhere outside the U.S. use the higher S/H fee.

I want to do something similar. Why wouldn't we use US for the first zone and 00 for the second?

I'm just getting going but I think I need to use Zone Rate. My client has one per item rate for US orders and another for everywhere else. I'm very new to Zen Cart (my first day with it really) so I'm a little lost as to how to accomplish this.

In the Zone Rate zones shipping module you can set the first Zone for:
US

for the United States ...

The second Zone set to 00 for everyone else ...

NOTE: The US includes all US Territories, Islands, 50 States plus DC and Armed Services ...

Great - that's what I was thinking! Now I just need to figure out how to do a per item rate for each zone. I am seeing tables, but that seems to be overkill for a simple per item

If it is a specific amount per Item as in each Item is $2.50 ... but you need to change the $2.50 per Zone ... then clone the Item Rate item shipping module and build a Zone for each cloned module ...

To clone the Item Rate item shipping module, do a search on:
clone item
clone flat

to see how this is done ...
