How to switch from Paypal Website Standards to Paypal Express?

I'm confused...

I'm currently using paypal website Standard for my zen-cart installation. We've had some issues with this that sometimes people will get re-directed back to my website and for some reason the paypal IPN is broken and won't release the order on our website. I have read that this doesn't happen with Paypal Express...

But I'm very confused. I've gone to paypal's website and I've gone through the zen-cart documentation, but I don't get it. I want to find the page at paypal that tells me what my paypal API number should be so that I can configure the zen-cart payments correctly, but every time I go to look at the paypal website it gets into much, much more detail that I think is geared towards devellopers and I really don't get what I'm supposed to do.

Can someone please help me to find the information that I need or give me a step-by-step guide in layman's terms on how to set up Paypal Express?
