suddenly having issue not receiving email notifications of new orders

I am suddenly having an issue not receiving email notifications of new orders. I can go into admin and see my customer orders, some are PayPal and some are credit card payments, so this doesn't appear to be related to the PayPal IPN issue from earlier this week. The orders are there and being recorded/saved, I'm just not getting an email notification and I don't know if customers are getting order confirmations.

I am using version 1.3.7
I don't know if I have any PayPal patches installed
My hosting is through GoDaddy (which has been working fine)

Any suggestions?

Look in admin/configuration/email options and check to see what the email transport method is set to.
Try switching it to PHP then run a test order and see if the emails get sent.
