145 Table 'paypal_session' is marked as crashed and should be repaired

Can't check out with paypal. Get the following error message.

145 Table './nameofserverhere_db/paypal_session' is marked as crashed and should be
repaired
in:
[delete from paypal_session where session_id = 'nameofsession']

I have never seen this before. Can someone help?

The message means exactly what it says: Your "paypal_session" table needs to be repaired.
Go to phpMyAdmin, choose your database, click the checkbox next to the paypal_session table, scroll to the bottom of the list of checkboxes, and choose "Repair Table" from the pulldown menu.
And/or contact your hosting company for assistance if phpMyAdmin isn't available or doesn't work for you.

I also had this error message but on the zencart_counter_history table and the above solution works perfectly and quickly. Many thanks. Any ideas what causes the problem though?
