Default Sales not applying to subcategories?

I've set up subcategories, and now I am having problems....

I can't get salemaker to apply a sale to any subcategories products.

I have tried both ways, checking just the category and not the subcategories, assuming it would include those, and selecting all the subcategories. But still nothing. Any suggestions? I really need the subcategories, and no, I don't have products under the category and subcategory because I was already told that was a big no no.

Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated, we have a huge month long sale taking place next month. Thanks.

Have you activated sale? Set the Start and the End date accordingly? Do you have linked products in the subcategories? Sales only apply to products that have a category/subcategory as the master category. You have change the reset the master categories for all products in the Store Manager.

    This should definitely work.

Start and end date is correct.

And all products are linked to their mfg as the master category.

I don't know what you mean when you talk about reset. Are you saying reset everything, wouldn't that unlink all the products from all the linked categories or subcategories they are linked too?

I am also noticing now that if we try to set a sale on a category that is also linked to a subcategory under a different category, it's not working either.

    So, for example.

I have a category called Word Art.
I have another category called Seasons, with a subcategory called Autumn.

I have a product called Fall Word Art, it's master category is the mfg designer DDBN, so it's linked to that. Then it's copied to the Word Art category and the subcategory Autumn. I was told not to copy it under the category Seasons becasue you can't have it under both category and subcategory. Make sense?

I should also mention that every mfg when they add products uses their own designer name as their master category, then we link our products to the other categories in the store. That way designers can do their own sales for their products without affecting anyone elses products.

Generall when we do certain product sales, I can click that category, but ever since I added subcategories, it hasn't worked. Which is why I think it has to do with them, but I can't figure it out.

See the store for more info if needed... www.stufftoscrap.com/store

    any suggestions/ideas?

What are the exact setting that you are using on this Sale Maker Sale?

Do all of the Products use those categories_id as their master_categories_id ...

I just realized that maybe it's never worked.
Generally we run a store wide sale or the individual designer does their own sale.

Each designer has their own master category #.

When they put their products in the store, they put it under their master category #, then we link it to the different categories or subcategories.

    Is that why?

Providing the Products are in the Designers Master Category and that is the Category you are putting on Sale, then regardless of where the products are linked to, the sale price will show ...

However, if you are missing the updates from the Known Bug Fixes:
    http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showthread.php?t=82619

    you can have issues ...

If you place a Sale on the whole shop, that should work on all Products ...

If you are trying to make a Sale on the Linked Categories, there you will have a Problem as that is not the Master Category ...

Depending on how your Products are setup, there are ways of switching the master_categories_id for the Sale period then switching them back ... but this is something that would have to be reviewed on a per store basis to see how Categories and Products are setup ...
