I keep creating errors in shopping cart file

Hello,

I'm using 1.3.8 with a few addons.

I keep creating an error (with creates all kind of trouble with the cart) when editing the includes/languages/english/shopping_cart.php file. I just want to add a few "instruction" lines of text. Is it the period after the sentences in my copy? I know to stay within the ' ', but not sure what I'm doing wrong.

I also want to add a few short sentences to the processing and delivered emails. Again I keep creating errors when I edit these.

What errors are you getting?

Are there any special characters (apostrophe, etc.) in your text?

Hey stevesh,

The error is: once you've made your selections (I sell t-shirts so select design, size and color) and click "add to cart" a blank page appears. Using the Debug Logging Tool, I know I'm doing something in the includes/languages/english/shopping_cart.php file. I did have a apostrophe and period in the sentences. Is this the problem? Can it only be one sentence in this file?

Yes, an apostrophe can cause problems as they will effectively 'de quote' a text string. Periods don't tend to cause any issues.

Another common 'gotcha' is having a blank line after the closing php> tag at the end of the file. This is often an unintended addition created by some text editors.
