    Default Expired Sale Item still showing on sale

    Hey everyone,

    I am running an install of Zen Cart 1.3.8a
    Patch: 1:: Database Patch Level: 1.3.8
    v1.3.8 [2009-12-12 07:18:58] (Fresh Installation)
    located at www.atlantasportscards.com.

    This site has a continuous cycle of items going on and off of sale at a frequent rate. There have been problems reported of items with sale prices that have expired still showing the sale price and then when going to checkout or doing a good old fashioned page reload/hard refresh the sale information goes away.

    Unfortunately I have not been able to replicate the problem so i don't have screenshots or anything to reference.

    I suspect it's a general caching/session/cookie issue because of some of our members viewing the site on a very regular basis.

    I have not come up with or found any other postings on the issue. What do I need to do in order to ensure that when a sale item expires the page won't display the sale price?

    Have you noticed if this happens for everyone or if it happens for some?

    Have you noticed if this happens always or just sometimes?

    Have you noticed if this happens at certain times?

    What version of Zen Cart? Clean install or an Upgrade? From what you are showing this appears to be a clean install of Zen Cart v1.3.8 ...

    What time zone are you in?

    What time zone is your server in?

    Have you applied all of the Known Bug Fixes to v1.3.8 at:

    It only happens some of the time, based on the customer base there are a lot of repeat views and i think it is happening with customers who have viewed the item/listing when it was on sale and then come back when the sale has expired and the listing doesn't update.

    It only happens to some people some of the time (at least what's being reported) typically within a few days of a sale items sale expiring.

    During the time after sale items sale expire, multiple days after... I do not know what the longest span of time after an item sale expires that the problem still occurs.

    The cart itself is a clean install but the product information and other aspects were imported from an older version (I believe the previous version was 2-3 versions out of date).

    The server is GoDaddy, the Zen Cart Version page shows the server time stamp being the same Eastern Time Zone stamp.

    I have not applied the majority of the Bug Fixes there are a couple there that might make a difference with the problem but for the most part the bug fixes shown don't appear to have much relation to this problem. I do still need to make the updates though.

    If you browse, via phpMyAdmin, the salemaker_sales table ... do you just see dates or do you see dates and times on the date fields ...

    If you look at the file, on the server, for the file:
    /includes/functions/salemaker.php

    what does the version id line read?

    only dates "YYYY-MM-DD"

    None that I am aware of having any affect on the cache...

    The way things are looking to me about the problem is similar to what I have seen on nonCMS websites. I have had clients that don't see updates to a site because of how frequently they have been to the site and it hasn't loaded the new version of the site without doing a hard refresh. Actually even with ZenCart while I was making graphic changes to sites I have had to have the viewer do a hard refresh to pick up the new graphics. Is there a way to make it where the end viewers of the site pull a fresh copy of the site say every new day that they come to the site?

    The specials, sales, featured and banners are treated based on the session and hitting midnight during the same session ...

    I have not reproduced this problem but I will keep looking into it to see if I can find something that might be preventing the trigger from happening ...
