Default Adding or changing to a new a template

    Hello everyone.

I have what's probably a simple question. I've searched the forums for the answer but there's sooooo much information on here it can make it difficult to weed through it all to find an answer!

So ... I apologize if this has already been asked:

If I install a new template (I have the Darkness one in mind) will it completely wipe out all the changes I've made to my existing "Classic" template?

    Thanks so much!

    No not is installed correctly

It will add a folder "darkbess to your /includes/templates folder with it's associated files

From the admin > tools > template selection you should now see it as an option

Don't know what changes or how you have made them but if correctly they are only attached to the classic template

You can copy the files and apply to the new template

Great - I was worried I would lose all my work. Granted I haven't really done a whole lot. My main concern would be losing the products & product information I loaded in. That won't be affected though right?

    Thanks!!!

That is correct as that info is in the Database and not in files

You will only have to replicate files that you have edited/added

    Thanks, again :-)

My boyfriend is uploading/installing the new template & I think he may be making it more complicated than necessary. Do you need to follow all the instructions in the template files? We're trying to install one from Zencarts templates ...

Don't worry, I promise I'll stop asking questions soon!

Yes...all zencart templates should have instructions
    contained in zip file plus

I am a newbie to Zencart, I read the threads about adding a new template. I am at a lost on how to do this. I went to 12leaves.com and downloaded a template but I have no success.
Can I get some assistance with this task? Please.

Unzip the template file you downloaded, and using your FTP program, drag and drop the 'includes' folder inside the template package to the root (top directory) of your cart.

Then select the new template in Admin - Tools - Template Selection. (If it isn't there, you dragged the folder to the wrong place.) Then click on 'Reset' in Admin - Tools - Layout Boxes Controller.
