Change the product color when clicking on the color swatch?

I have apparel that comes in different colors, I have the color swatches on the site. I would like to know if it is possible that when a customer clicks on the color swatch that it changes the color of the apparel image?

I want the swatch images to be different then the image that would be displayed...

For example you click on a black swatch, and a black t-shirt comes up, not the black swatch you clicked on... I tried naming my images shirt1_01_med.jpg an shirt1_01_lrg.jpg but that doesnt do anything!
