Is there a limit on how many discount coupons I can create?

Hi all,

I am using Zen Cart 1.3.8a.

I am wanting to implement a new scheme which will require issuing a lot of discount coupons to specific individuals.

Is there a limit on how many discount codes I can create? Or can I create an unlimited amount?

You can create as many as the integer value within the database can handle. I think this is approximately 2,147,483,647.

Remember though that if you have hundreds, or even millions, your store needs to run through all of these to check that the discounts are valid, so try not to have 2 active ones, and thousands of disabled ones, as this will just slow your store's performance.

Good point about not having too many to slow things down but I am having trouble deleting coupons once they are not needed anymore.

When I delete, it asks me to confirm, I say yes. Then it just makes them inactive. This happens whether they were inactive in the first place or not. I thought it may not want me to delete coupons which were still within the time period but the expiry date does not seem to make any difference either.

I want to start using more coupons but dont want to create a whole bunch that I cant delete later.

Any suggestions?

See, every day is a school day!

Just had a quick look at the code, and it never deletes the coupon, it will only ever disable them. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with the redeemed coupons and running reports. For example, it may be that if you actually delete the coupons, they then don't appear within a sales report.

You might want to test this on a demo site, and then delete out a coupon directly from the database, and see if this has any negative effects.

Discount Coupons are not fully deleted so that the code cannot be repeated "accidentally" or on "purpose" on a new Discount Coupon so that once a Discount Coupon has ben disabled or expired it is permanent ...
