Default 138 mods tested on 139

Dont know if the Devs mind me posting this.. but then if they dont they can delete it or move it somewhere else as its not so much about 139 bugs or out.

I have started testing Add-ons and although i have ONLY just installed and played... it might be helpful to some others out their that have no backbone (like me) when it comes to upgrading.

ON a clean install of ZC139 the following mods seem to work just as well on 138a
(in fact the sites seems a fair bit faster than a 138a.. but then that could just be excitement)

Image Handler 2 - No problems as yet
Zen Lightbox - No problems as yet
Module Manager Revision 185 - No problems as yet
JUst another Xsell Mod - No Problems as yet
    Category Dressing - No problem as yet ;clap;
Display Inc/Ex Tax or VAT Prices - doesnt work properly (but then that could be me not installing it right?

dont know about you lot but im at the gym at 6am and im funked... i will play more over the next few days and test the following

    Admin Profiles (kuroi)
    Ask a Question (SWGUY)
    Ez Pages Metatag Fields (Ebspromo)
    Simple Google ANALytics (EConcepts)
    Encrypted Master Password (Dennis Sayer)
    Login As Customer (Sid Smith)
    Edit Orders (Scott Turner)
    Invoice (SWGUY)
    Login Spruce Up (Tony Cradwick)
    Add customers from Admin (Crunch)
    BORED OF TYPING... LOADS MORE...

Unless other already know the craic.. (god i have no life)

    tu'rar (geordie for goodbye)

can i just ask.. when ppl are testing mods...

are they looking at which mods affect core files, then comparing said files of 139 to 138a?... then merging the mod core changes with 139?

because when i first started i was just uploading, not realising that i was adding mods and there injecting 138a code into 139.

Also if you note that, i can add it to the end of the list.. like the example in the next post

well done on getting FEC to work on 139, me and many others never manage to get it working fully on 138a lol

If they're not then their tests aren't terribly useful.

If a core file is used, I merge the changes into the 139 core file and test them that way. Like you said swguy, it would be a waste to just install them and overwrite the 139 core code.

Funny - I *almost* created a thread like this myself.

    So far, for my stuff:
    - Quantity Discounts and Better Together both work with 1.3.9.

Random question, but will it matter what order you install the mods in?

for example, what if the mods work in the installation order MOD A, MOD B, MOD C, but don't work in the order MOD B, MOD C, MOD A.

Does it matter which mods you build your 'foundation' with? or am I just being silly?

Either way will work as long as you merge changes as you go. If mod A makes changes to the shopping cart template and so does mod B, you cannot simply copy the shopping cart template from mod A or mod B to your template directory - you have to merge the changes each one makes to your final file. A good rule of thumb is:

    a) If a file in a mod is a template file (override file), does it already exist in your cart? If so, merge the changes in.
    b) If a file in a mod is not a template file, does your cart already change this file? (Compare it with a fresh download to determine the answer.) If so, merge the changes.

Keep a fresh, unmodified download somewhere on your computer for reference and use a comparison tool such as WinMerge. And always make a backup!

Legitimate question. If two mods both alter the same file, then their versions of the file would have to be merged, no matter which order they were installed. If they don't interfere that way, it shouldn't matter.
It is conceivable that there could be database changes that would make a difference, but if so, at least one of the mods will likely mention the dependency, or there will be discussion of it in its support thread.
