Free downloads with 100% discount code

Is it possible to allow a 100% discount (free download) on an item by giving a client a discount code to enter. This relates only to digital downloads.

If it is possible, how does PayPal handle this since no payment will be made. I will only be using PayPal for my transactions.

If I could be directed to where I can get help in this area it would be appreciated.
