    Default Paypal Payments Pro 139c

    Hi

on 139b i am allowed to set up paypal payments pro

on a 139c i am not allowed to set up paypal payments pro, instead i get the warning

Sorry, you must install and configure PayPal Express Checkout first. Website Payments Pro requires that you offer Express Checkout to your customers.

Is this a deliberate thing by paypal?.. and why the change?
i havce looked their site but as always.. cant find the answer

yes... it is a mandatory requirement from PAYPAL. If you do not provide the link for Express, you are in contravention of your PayPal t&c's and they can cancel your account if they discover this.

The issue with PayPal WPP is that it functions as an "embedded" feature within your site, and displays no PayPal branding.

While PayPal offers the WPP as a "blind" gateway, paypals major business objective is to get people to sign up, as they then market additional tools and services to these people - which contributes the bulk of their revenue.

If everyone opted for a "blind" gateway only, then PayPal would probably have to increase its fees, as their revenue stream from other services (which subsidize the gateway service to some extent) would diminish.

So, look at it this way... Paypal is a bit cheaper than comparable gateways because they use the express feature to get both better branding exposure and account sign-ups.

And it's not "new". It's always been that way, just not enforced within ZC.
