downloads now start streaming vs. downloading

I have mp3's setup as downloadable products. They have been working using the download by redirect option since I began providing these mp3's over a year ago. Now, users are only able to stream the mp3 when clicking on the download button once they complete their purchase. I changed nothing I can think of that would cause this. In fact, download by streaming is still showing as set to false. Could my host of done something that would cause this to happen?

I am on Zencart 1.3.8a.
I do not have Gzip compression enabled.
My pub directory is set to 775.
My Server OS is: Linux 2.6.32.8-grsec-2.1.14-modsign-xeon-64.

Do you happen to have the Mod "SnapShot" installed?

If so that will tell you what files have been changed since you last took a SnapShot!

If not consider installing it as it is a great toll at times like this.

no on the snapshot, but I will install it this weekend. Thanks for the recommendation. I just tested additional mp3 downloads, and they too are streaming vs downloading. Very strange..

update: I just discovered that all mp3's indeed are streaming instead of popping up a download option to save. But, I also offer entire albums that are zipped, and those of course cannot stream, so the download popup works perfectly on those zipped files. So should I now be zipping individual mp3 files too?

found the problem. I had to add
AddType application/octet-stream .mp3 to the htaccess file residing in the pub directory. Strange that I did not already have this, and stranger still that I thought things were working correctly all this time. :-(
