1253 COLLATION 'latin1_general_ci' is not valid for CHARACTER SET 'utf8'
in:
[CREATE TABLE zen_counter_history_clean as SELECT * FROM zen_counter_history WHERE 1 GROUP BY startdate COLLATE latin1_general_ci;]
now i am getting this message when i try to update the database
One has to wonder why you'd even bother to keep backups if this were the case.
Although not often discussed, unless the backup regime is regularly tested (which includes the ability to restore) then keeping backups is a pointless exercise and is probably even worse than no backup at all. At least if you know you don't have a backup you'll be extra careful about doing something foolish.

I didnt download anything but the datebase update. fantastico did the 1.3.9B how do i get the 1.3.9D?
If you didnt notice i am very very new with Zen cart. I have the book but it is at the office which does me no good right now
There is one single zipped file to download: zen-cart-v1.3.9d-full-fileset-06032010.zip (about 4327KB).
This file contains the latest version (d) including a zc_install folder and a docs folder.
The docs folder contains all upgrade instructions, changelogs and whatsnew files.
Important: You need to study the docs carefully before proceeding.
Running zc_install does the DB upgrade. The new database structure is the same for all 1.3.9 versions (a to d) so you always get a 1.3.9 DB after a successful upgrade.
HEy 2kredz3, I had the same exact error, and tried many many fixes listed on these forums from the past 4 days, and DrByte finally came up with the proper fix for me. Check out this topic:
http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showpo...48&postcount=6
Just change the one parameter that DrByte lists to utf8 and then do the Database Upgrade, and it worked for me!
