Default Can I make the store a sub page and not the home page?

Sorry if this has been put somewhere else but I can't find it.

I'm doing a Zen Cart for a customer.

The customer has now told me that he wants one of the other pages I have built using EZPages to be the home page with no side boxes showing, and the shopping Cart to be accessed via a link on the navigation bar running across the top, under the header.

Can anyone tell me if this is possible please, and how I can do it/.

Many thanks in advance for any help.

As long as your "store" is in a sub-folder then you can place a link to the folder on the main page.

Thanks for the reply, I appreciate it.

However, I don't want to build a seperate website and then a link to Zen Cart, I wish to have Zen Cart display one of the EZ pages by default, and then show the page whcih displays the categories etc. on a link in the main navigation bar.

    Is this possible?

I misread your post. I have no idea how to do that.

Someone else will be able to answer your question.

I've got the same problem as well. I've done the main page which the client is happy with, now I need to get to the products from the navigation bar. There must be a way. If I manage to figure out how it's done I'll post it for you.

    Something like THIS ?

It is the STANDARD zencart index.php page (home page) where I have disabled left and right columns completely (on the home page) and used DEFINE MAIN PAGE (define pages editor) to apply the bespoke HTML.

A bit tricky, but it uses the "kill side-columns" capability inherent in tpl_main_page.php

    Thanks for the reply.

Your site is something like what I'm after.

The client has decided he wants a website with a link that takes people to the shop.

He wants the index page on a horizontal navigation bar to be about his company - same old stuff, you know.

Then he has further pages that cover more information on other stuff he does. He then has a contact page and then the link to the shop.

So he doesn't want any sign of Zen Cart styling or cart features at all until someone clicks the shop link. All other pages need to be bespoke HTML.

I'm wondering if maybe I should now just put the Zen Cart in a sub directory after all, but that means I have to build two sites.

    Any ideas really, really appreciated!

Your client - like many - sees his website as a personal ego trip first... and a business channel second (if at all).

The internet is a great leveller... a garden shed operation can work towards being a megastore, and can compete with a megastore on pretty much level ground.

But the competitveness is massive, and qualitative factors regarding site efficiency are now measured in tenths of a second.

While your client uses his site to pontificate about how bleedin' fantastic, clever, and beautiful he is and hides the revenue generator behind a lot of crap that nobody (but him) cares about... his competitors are using rapid-fire boot-in-the-face selling to get people to part with their cash.

I am quite brutal in telling people this... On the www, you have a scant few seconds to put the desired product in front of a shopper. If this is not the core focus, then expect the site (and potentially the business) to fail.

Ah - now this is a subject that could go on for hours.

What the client wants when he is paying is quite simple. I of course point out the pitfalls and flaws but they claim they understand and then choose to ignore the advice I give them.

I've been web designing since 1996 and have seen it all.

As for the site, I have stumbled upon template overrides which should sort me out.

    Cheers for the earlier help.

Yeah Mike... sorry if it sounded as if I was having a go at you... I wasn't at all. I have the same issue with people who fail to see what's important.

I had one client hold up development for weeks becuase she did not like the "shade of green" in the header logo. She kept insisting that while it looked OK on her computer screen at work, it was "darker" on her screen at home.

I was told to fix it.

I offered to do it for a DOLLAR... (a dollar per screen of all the comptuers in the world, which I would have to visit individually, and, armed with a colour densiometer, tweak each monitor's color settings till we got it right.)

Then (going back some years), I was talking to a client on the phone and during the course of the discussion, I asked her "Have you got Windows on your computer?"

    "Hold on..." came the reply.

For a few seconds I heard scratching and bumping sounds. Then she came back on the phone.

"I can't see any windows," she said, "but there's a sort of grill thingy at the back and I think there is a fan spinning round in there."
