upgrading from 1.3.8 to 1.3.9d error

I have "successfully" upgraded, but when I try to go to the zencart admin (http://...admin/index.php I now get this error:

1146 Table 'aap_zencart.zen_project_version' doesn't exist
in:
[select * from zen_project_version WHERE project_version_key = 'Zen-Cart Database' ]
If you were entering information, press the BACK button in your browser and re-check the information you had entered to be sure you left no blank fields.

What can it mean?

is this only on the admin side? Does the shop part of it work

it looks like a database connection problem, has the configure files been altered?

Thanks - yes, it's true - it turned out to be a database reference problem.
