Currency Not Displaying Correcting

This may sound really stupid but I cant stop my store showing everything in dollars. My default currency is set to GBP and should display a "£" next the the figure. Also "Switch To Default Language Currency" is set to false

When I add products through the admin panel they display in pounds but when I check the site itself everything is displayed in dollars

What part am I missing?

Sorry I have corrected the problem however the template im using does not recognise the '£' symbol. Is there a way to correct that as just now it comes up as �

I am also having the same problem while displaying pound sign.Can anyone suggest me the solution to get rid of this problem.I have used a theme other than the default one.
