Default Email Error: Could not instantiate mail function.

I am not sure if this is the right location for this thread. But I am running Zen Cart on my PC using localhost. When I try to login as a user to test the buying experieince I get the following error:

Email Error: Could not instantiate mail function. Please check Admin->Configuration->Email Options->Email Transport.

Even though my Email transport method under Configuration is PHP.

    Any help, thanks.

Your localhost PC almost certainly has no mailserver engine on it. And, since you won't be running a real live store from it, it's better that you turn off email functionality ("Enable Email" = False) until you actually put your site on a real webserver that's capable of email.

Great, will do that. So then how do I test checkout a product from my store on localhost?

Um ... add it to your cart and go through checkout.

Thanks, Dr Byte for helping me.

So when I try to login using my site login, Paypal Checkout or even register a new account I get the sane message. I know this has to do with some settings to make the localhost work, just don't know which one because it works when the site is live.

What message? If it's telling you about a problem sending emails, then you've still not turned off emailing as I mentioned earlier.

It might be caused by a missing mailserver.

I use smtp4dev (just google it) which is a low-weight, easy to install stmp server for development on windows
