My apologies. I should have explained better last time. Its not so much as template but the functionality of the business I was tempering with to see if I should set it up in Zen cart or simply write a database for my client.

As any service industry business, they have customers and supplier, they need to keep record of their customers, and do their invoicing, and take care of their products.

My thoughts were to do a standard website frontend, with a secure backend shop for them to use for their order processing and invoicing.

Any thoughts on this?

Zen Cart is not designed to be the back end of a website. It's designed to be the entire website. That's not saying that Zen Cart can't do what you need. It's just not designed to work the way you described.

Having worked in used and new part retail. I am not sure how can you get Zen Cart to work for what you trying to do.

Usually such industries have their own software (systems) that can do invoicing and handle the POS issues. Even if your client is trying to sell parts he can do that with a POS.

Zen Cart and such carts are for online businesses, even though you can integrate them into custom POS solutions but if most of your sales are face to face I suggest separate the online from the store front.
