Default Re: Stock by Attributes 5.0 Beta (for v1.5.0)

    Hi Diva and Creinold,

From your posts in various threads Creinold you have mentioned that you have a client that has the dynamic dropdown working for SBA and it works for several attributes (presumably by forcing the customer to select the colour first then size etc?). Would it be possible for you to link to this site or another test site where i can see the dynamic drop down in action?
We are running on 1.3.9h and are looking to implement a dynamic dropdown. We currently have an availability box telling a customer whether a combination is in stock after they have selected all options www.redpostequestrian.co.uk , however this is not so good for customers if we have several colours and several sizes out of stock as they have to look through lots (and often they ignore it anyway and try to checkout). We only use drop down boxes for attributes and won't normally have more than 4 different attribute options. Is there some code i can put in for the dynamic dropdowns? Preferrably with it leaving out of stock sizes/colours showing but greyed out with (out of stock) next to them and unclickable.

    Thanks!

    Hi creinold,

I did install a previous version before installing the latest one. In the latest one I did not install the sql again. Do I need to remove the previous install sql before adding the new one?

Short and sweet answer is that sequenced dropdowns (the functionality you are inquiring about) is only supported for Zen Cart v1.5.

What creinold developed and what is being discussed in THIS SBA thread is the version of SBA that is setup to work SPECIFICALLY (and ONLY) with Zen Cart v1.5. It does indeed support sequenced dropdowns because creinold FIXED that old crippled Dynamic Dropdowns add-on and integrated it and into his Zen Cart v1.5 ready version of SBA.

This version --Stock by Attributes 5.0 Beta (for v1.5.0)-- will NOT work with Zen Cart v1.3.9 (or any versions prior to v1.3.9), and any questions with regards to the SBA versions which work with Zen Cart v1.3.9 should be directed to the correct support thread for all those MANY SBA flavors that work (albeit BADLY) with Zen Cart v1.3.9.

Now to save you a little trouble.. sequenced dropdowns was a feature that was FREQUENTLY asked about in the other SBA support thread and to my knowledge NO ONE ever has posted a code fix for sequenced dropdowns..

and NOT installing the SQL file is EXACTLY why you don't see SBA in your admin menu..

and YEAH you should run the un-install before running the new install..

I just want to thank Creinold for taking this on and all those who are supporting him by testing the module as well. This adds invaluable functionality to Zen Cart and I'm grateful an update is coming so I'll be able to enjoy the benefits of upgrading to 1.5.

Again, my thanks to all of you.

Hey there, could anybody help me troubleshoot why the dynamic dropdown is not working in my template?
    For instance at http://j ibadoo.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1&products_id=5

It's a template problem, as when I go back to the classic green template, all is well. However, I'm not sure what code I should be looking for in what file, to make this work in my template - is there a template file I should have updated and haven't?

    Grateful for any help...!

Is the an unistall.ql for the SBA 1-4-14 the non modified version as i installed this first and then found out it did not work and then found this alpha version?

    thanks
I'm having this issue too. As posted above, it's only in my particular template, so I'm wondering if there's a file I need to copy over from the default template.

However interestingly the default template shows the dropdown - but no quantities, so it's not exactly working either...

Hi. I have Stock by Attributes 5.0 Beta (for v1.5.0) installed on a fresh Zen1.5.0. I've done some basic testing and it appears to functioning without issue but there are things I have noticed which would frustrate potential customers.

Firstly, on the product info page I have the "In Stock" feature turned on. It shows the total number of stock available. So if I have 4 red thingo's and 7 blue thingo's, it shows 11 in stock. That's OK; no issue with that, but the customer has no way of knowing how many red or blue thingo's I have on the product info page. THe options do identify the thingo's that are ouy of stock, but options that have a current stock level, do not show the stock available.

One option the customer has is to add thingo's to the cart. In the cart the customer can check if the qty ordered is available however for e.g. if he/she orders 9 red thingo's they will see the *** indication there isn't enough stock. The only option then is to try different qty's; I know this would annoy me.

I believe if the code is evaulating stock levels and capable of showing "Out of stock", that same code would have variables that contain the qty of stock for that attribute. I'm not a coder, but I'd like to suggest a visual change to what the customer see's as attribute qty's. The images below show it better than I can explain it.

    Before Change:

Name:	stock1.jpg
Views:	111
Size:	13.0 KB
ID:	10347

    After Change:

Name:	stock2.jpg
Views:	126
Size:	14.0 KB
ID:	10348

As you can see the option dropdown would be more informative; the customer can see available stock qty's and is unlikely to get frustrated trying to work out how many red thingo's I have available.

I hope this is a simple change, and look forward to some nice person making it available.

Thanks to creinold for carrying on with the torch here. I have been having some minor trouble with the SBA add-in and after a few days of research I haven't been able to make any progress. My attributes are all drop-down menus. When I select an attribute and add the item to the cart, the attribute doesn't get added- just the item with no attribute. This happens every time with every item. I first noticed it when the orders would arrive without any attributes. I was able to find that the problem seems to be starting right there in the "add to cart" phase.

I had a previous install of 1.3.9 and SBA 4.7, which worked well. Then I succumbed to pressure from the core developers to upgrade to 1.5.0 before I realized that SBA was not going to be available. There are lots of opinions about what a good installer "should" do and here's an example of where they are unfortunately quite conflicting. Here's my install:

If anyone has any suggestions about what I can do to fix it, or how I can provide more information to get a better answer, I'd certainly appreciate it. Thanks in advance!

Is anyone hosting this file somewhere else? The link in the first post reports a 404.
