Attribute Alert message if customer doesn't click the radio button?

I have a text input attribute & a radio box attribute. If a shopper fills in the text box, how do I prompt it so that they must select a radio box before the item will be allowed into the shooping cart. It also needs to work the other way around, so if a shopper selects a radio box, how do i prompt them to fill in the text box before the item will be allowed into the shopping cart?

Mark the TEXT Attributes as Required Text ...

For the Radiobuttons, setup an extra Option Value such as:
Pick one ...
Sort Order 0
Display Only YES
Default YES

Now the customer must fill in the TEXT Attributes that are marked Required and make a proper selection on Radiobuttons ...
