Creating new sideboxes-Bookshelf template

Hello, not sure if I'm putting this in the right section of the forum or not so admins feel free to move it if necessary.

I'm using ZenCart 1.3.9h with the bookshelf template and was wondering how I would go about creating a blank sidebox where I could put something in like 'News' or something that doesn't come with the standard template?

Second questions, the 'Information' sidebox where the 'contact us' link and others are, is there a place I can go to remove an item from the box or add something in there?

I've been through the forum for these answers but haven't come across them yet, if you know of a link to the answer already posted that would be great.

Admin - Configuration - Define Page Status to remove - adding stuff is more difficult, but there's this:
