unable to show the pound sign on the site

Hello,

I have set the GBP(pound) as the default currency on my site and set the value of symbol left as £ and also tried it with £ but no one of them shows me the right results.

I have searched a lot for that and also i have made changes in the file includes/languages/english.php and set the value of define('LANGUAGE_CURRENCY', 'USD'); from USD to GBP but this also doesnot work.May be I am using a theme different from default so i need to made changes in some other file that is in the theme folder.

I have discussed my issue with support team from where we have bought the theme and they said :
In general the specials symbols should be entered as html code, e.g. £ though it doesn't work on your site, as there's something wrong with your Zen Cart engine, and it adds another html tag before the pound - &
Please help me in solving this problem ASAP.

I have changed the settings as told in the link but nothing has been changed, I am getting the wrong currency symbol.Please revert ASAP .
