Default Changing Host - How Best to be not loose data?

Mods, feel free to move if in the incorrect forum.

I'm switching hosts, but a little uneasy about the process.

Currently I expect this to be the process:
    - create a duplicate site on my new host
    - ask my old host to point the nameservers for my domain to the new host
    - ask the old host to tell me when they make the switch so I can immediately update my new host database to match

That last step is the part that is bothering me. I get orders all day/night long and I'm worried about the databases not being in synch.

Is there a better way to do this other than to take the checkout offline for around 30min. at the time of the nameserver switch?

    -lindasdd

P.S. Unfortunately I can not do the nameswitch myself. My host has it set up so that they have to do it.

Saw that previously, but didn't see the section at the bottom about nameservers.

I just added an Advanced Tip to the article, which you may find helpful.
