Help! Putting Copied Items on Sale?

I've organized my store so that all items are organized by type of product. I now want the option of having it also viewable/searchable by theme (i.e. winter, christmas, spring etc.) so that I can easily create a sale based on theme (i.e. 50% off all xmas stuff)

So I created a new CATEGORY and then mulitple sub-categories. I created a COPY of each item and moved it to the appropriate category. It took forever but it worked fine.

But now SALES don't apply to these categories. It shows that there is a sale in the backend (I'm able to create the sale, and the discount shows in blue in the backend) but there is nothing happening in the storefront.

What the heck? Whats the point of being able to copy items to a new category if that category can't be put on sale.

Is there a solution for this problem??

I don't want to make these the master categories because I also want to be able to create sales based on the original categories.

I'm using Zen Cart v1.3.8a/v1.3.8

SaleMaker is based on the master_categories_id ... so if you have a Sale on a Category of Products that do not use it for the master_categories_id then the Sale will not apply ...
