Download starts instead of shop showing?!?!?!?

Hi guys

I have encountered a really weird thing:

I have set up a ZC 1.3.9 shop which runs well until I try to upload a new .htaccess file:

First of all, I don't see the .htaccess file on the FTP server, but a colleague of mine sees it?!? (I am using FileZilla)

And if I upload a new default .htaccess file to the server (no changes to the default .htaccess) the shop just stops working. The shop will just not show up in the browser anymore but a download of the file index.php to my local download folder starts instead. My colleague is no no longer able to see the shop too because this strange download starts instead.

Have you ever seen that strange behaviour? I am probably not the only one with this strange experience, am I?

Ups... I checked again and saw that the following extra lines are in the .htaccess:

Action php /cgi-php52/php
AddHandler php52 .php

They are telling one of my host servers make to sure that PHP 5.2 cgi is used for the page but they are not required on another host I am using. On the other host, they are not just 'not required' but indeed provoke the strange download behaviour!

The problem would appear to be best directed to your hosting company.

AddHandler php52 .php

The "download" you are experiencing normally occurs when PHP is not installed on a server, but in this case it is being caused by those lines in the .htaccess file. Remove the lines and the "strange behaviour" should cease.
