category promotion - ie 3 for 2 on dvd's

I am looking at the buy one get one free add on updated by sandra warne

Just wondering is this on a per product basis or can I do this on different products in the same category?

basically I sell (amongst other things) used games and dvds, so would like to do the occasional 3 for 2 offer, etc.

Any advice would be appreciated, and if this doesn't do that, does anyone know what does?

I think the Free Gifts - Dangling Carrot let's you specify any product in any category as your Free gift.

I haven't ever used it, so you may want to do a little reading in its' SUPPORT THREAD first, though, as it plainly says it overwrites numerous core files.

That's not quite what I am looking for, thanks anyway, with that I need to name the free gifts, which may come in handy for a future promotion if I can get verification it will work fully with 1.3.9h.

What I am looking for is the customer to put the items in their cart from a certain category and it deduct the cheapest item automatically, not sure if there is anything though? like buy 4 DVDs and get cheapest free.

For anyone wanting to know the same answer, I heard back from the support email for the buy one get one free module and it is on a per product basis.
