Default Want to use index.php as a splash page...how?

As someone who designs websites for a living, I feel like I know the answer to this in the depths of my brain because it has to be obvious and it's possible I'm having a bad 'brain' day....

But....of course I installed zencart to run so that when you go to www.mywebsite.com it automatically goes to the store front. But now I need to make the index.php page a splash page that gives the user a choice of a couple of links (one that goes to the wholesale site, one to the retail site and one to download a pdf of the product catalog). Since currently, everything that says 'home' on the site leads to index.php I assume I have to change something somewhere. I'm at a complete loss at what steps I need to take here. Other than reinstalling in another subfolder, how can I do this?

Like I said, very bad brain day....appreciate any help

why not just make an index.html page for the splash page, rather than using the index.php

as normally in web folders index.html is the default index then index.php then index.???

Wouldn't that then mean I'd have to make sure there was no php on that page? Off hand I can't think of what specifically I'd need to have php for but it just seems like that would be something I'd probably have to overcome in the future...right?

yep but it saves faffing around with redirects, and for a splash page you shouldn't have any need for php, basically it seemed the simplist option as the more i thought about any other options the level of complexity and potential for errors increased, and of course i like simple cause i'm lazy

As am I.....and clearly my brain power currently does not have the capacity to do anything more complicated...thanks for helping, that's what I'm going to do :) Also thanks for reminding me why I love the zencart community so much more than most others....

Hmmm....OK....so it seems that I have a problem. I have my store site set to redirect anyone that hits the main page to a login page (so that no one can see the store front until they log in)....which seems to be causing (for I'm sure obvious reasons...) the index.html page to redirect as well.

Is there any way I can set it so that the default page (which I want to be the index.html page) loads the splash page, and the index.php page be the one that redirects to the login page???

You've confused me, but I think what you want to do is forget all the redirects, and place the splash page (named index.html) in the root directory. I assume there will be a link on that splash page to index.php. Then set up the proper options in admin so that people have to log in to see the site.

I hope you have some whiz-bang can't-get-them-anywhere-else products, though. I wouldn't bother navigating a splash page and a log-in-just-to-see-the-site policy unless I really needed what you're selling.

Or the splash page was for the wholesale side of the business and reminded folks that they should go to retailstore.com for retail and informed them that following the link to wholesale would require their logging in.

Just one way I might use it
