Default Paypal Express or Paypal Pro

I'm pretty sure I asked this already somewhere but for the life of me can't remember where and can't find it in my posts but here we go:

Which of the two do you recommend? Express or Pro?

I also notice that you're trying for the PA-DSS certification is one better that the other if you get the certification?

I asked this question earlier in the week. I was told that since I was already accepting credit card I should go with paypal express.
One thing that I found out though that I cannot do a dummy order and it doesn't look like it is adding the flat rate shipping charges to the order. But I will not know for sure until someone uses that form of payment.

Express is the more mature and efficient version over IPN. Both accept payments from PayPal accounts, from credit cards via the PayPal site, etc.
So, yes, "Express Checkout" is strongly recommended over IPN.

Pro is *on top* of Express, adding the ability to take credit cards directly on your site just like if you were using Moneris or Authorize.net or another direct card gateway.

Much more detail is the FAQs/Tutorials:

As with any credit card gateway, proper server and software configuration are required on your part.
PA-DSS is not the issue you should be concerned about.
It's up to *you* to be able to pass your own required PCI certification process esp if you're going to add a gateway to your site for accepting credit cards directly (such as PP Pro or any other card gateway).

As far as Express Checkout, PayPal is not requiring PCI certification of vendors' sites at this time. There's no word yet on whether they will require it at some point in the future. If they do, it's likely they'd require it for IPN users too, so PCI isn't really a concern when switching to Express

Thanks so much for the answers

I will switch over to Express tonight.

Paypal asks what the average sale amount is - since I have never sold anything online yet - how would I determine this amount? My prices range from $3.50 to $175.00. Start low and then increase this figure as I start to make sales? Does anyone have experience in with this part of it?

"average sale amount" would be the average of all your invoices divided by the number of invoices. Quick math you can do from your accounting software.
