selecting product category gives incorrect page titles

Greetings and Salutations:

I just downloaded Zen Cart v1.3.9h on an XP box and am in the process of setting up my category and products. I sell magazines, so right now I have one main category, Magazines, and a bunch of products (magazine titles) under it. Under each product I have listed an instance of a specific magazine. For instance, Life Magazine would be a product to Magazines and June 4, 1957 would be the specific product under life.

I noticed that when I select a category, the page title is inconsistent. For instance, when I select Mad Magazine (4th down from the top), the page title is Mad Magazine, which is correct (mad.png). When I select NASCAR Illustrated, which is the next one in order, the title is incorrect and shows the category 2 down (Road & Track) (rnt.png). In some instances, the title shows http://yesterdaysm=index&cPath=1_16 (where 16 changes depending on my selection) (backpacker.png) . In a couple of instances, the title has my product summary information.

So, depending on my category selection, I get the correct title, my URL with parameter or the entire product description. The storehttp://www.yesterdaysmagazines.com is located at: http://www.yesterdaysmagazines.com

Any help, direction or comments would be very much appreciated.

What PHP files have you been editing?

And have you tried any customisations to Meta Tags for categories and products, in the Admin Panel?

The ONLY reason for these "inconsistencies" would be because of manual editing... Zencart will not generate this behaviour of its own accord.

If you can walk us through what types of edits you have been doing, we may find out where you slipped up.

As far as I can recall, I've manually edited meta_tags.php and english.php and header.php

Get into the habit of keeping notes about what you are doing... My suggestion would be to REPLACE the files you have edited with originals, and start again.

Then, keep notes of what you do, so you can UN-DO things if necessary.

As we don't know precisely what you changed, it is not easy to make suggestions.

Thanks for the reminder. I usually save a copy of the original file before I edit it: foo.php goes to org_foo.php. I don't take notes on what I do, although that is a great idea. I've been thinking about putting my stuff on SVN just for cases like this.

The good news is that I fixed the problem although I'm not sure what caused it. The problem was in my meta tags via the zen cart product configuration. My meta title was the problem along with all the options to include: price, title,meta tag, etc. Once I figured it out, I edited the problems and they went away.
