    help question Is it possible...?

    hi all :)

i just installed zencart v.1.3.9h on my site http://brockarts.org.uk

it's basically a local community arts group to promote artists that may not otherwise have access to an audience and to encourage creativity in the community..

my question is: is it possible to use zencart to create a gallery format shop with artists' having their own gallery? (akin to etsy.com)

so that each artist can upload their new items and have them show in their gallery/main gallery

i hope this isn't too stupid a question, any help/pointers gratefully received :)

It can be used as a framework and twisted to pretty much anything. there's a showroom mode whereby it can be used for display only rather than as a store, for example.

But if you want a gallery, why not use one of the open source apps that does specifically that?

Yes, Just make a product category with the persons name as the title.
Then, within that category, make a product. Take care to select "product - general" from the drop down menu before clicking the NEW PRODUCT button. This way you are making a slimmed down product page that appears as an informational page, ie. without price, salex tax etc.

Also if you have multiple users you can try the admin module that lets you restrict which categories you want each person to have access to in the admin.

Although you should still trust and screen the people with this access because they will know the location of your admin and that location is not good to put out there for everyone to know for security reasons.
