Default New to Zencart, using Acadame template

    Hi

Im right at teh beginning stages of creating our online store.

We have installed Zencart and have managed to install the Acadame template.

I have a multitude of questions but the support thread for this theme seems dead since September 2010.

Perhaps some of the things I ask will be generic?

For the moment I seek to remove a dead image at the footer of my page.
And to widen the whole presence on the page ie there is a lot of unused space on the left and right of the main page area.

    Can anyone help please?
Im normally quite tech-sdavvy but zencart has me by the xxx

    TIA

We'll need a link to the site to help much. You can try increasing the width of #mainWrapper in stylesheet.css for the second question - it's 750px by default. I usually use 960-980px in most cases.

TYhanks for the promtp reply Stevesh.

    The #mainwrapper thing worked. Thanks.

Before I post up my site, I got playing with tempaltes a bit more then got lost in the sea of settings.

Can I ask, is Zencart really the most suitable for me, do you think? Im finding the settings really hard to navigate, my online clothing store is very small and I dont expect to retire on the income so it need not be complex. Also Im strapped for time with the kids always hanging around me so is this one the best and easiest solution for me or do you think theres something easier?

In terms of business needs - everythign retail stores have is what I need.

    Thoughts?

No way to know if there might be a better option for you. After 6 years, 13,000 posts and scores of Zencart sites, I've become kind of fond of Zencart.

There are hosts which offer basic shopping carts included with a hosting plan, as do Yahoo and Amazon, but I seldom recommend them.

One thing I would suggest is not to aim too low. You don't really know what kind of business you're going to do until you're up and running. You may find that you enjoy ecommerce, and can make your living from it.

Zencart does have a fairly steep learning curve at first, but it flattens out pretty quickly once you've spent some time in admin and styling your site. Don't let it intimidate you - we were all once where you are know.

Tell the kids to go outside to play.

    Thaks again for your repsonse.

Admittedly I resolved the width issue, using your advice but have now changed templates to PURE BLACK

I think I want to know Zencart now. Im not a patient person and whilst I enjoy steep learning curves, I appreciate them being a bit shorter and prefer GUIs over the menu system BUT I will stick with it.

Im sure youll see me around lots as I get used to it all.

if there si any documentation that you think is really good as a starting point for me to get this store up and running, Id love to hear of it.

    Cheers
    Belinda

PS Kids cant go outside much - its winter here and rainy

The Book (ad at the top of this page) is very good, but only deals with installing and configuring Zencart - it has little to no info on styling.

Kerrin has a lot of info here - most of it free:
