Best way to bulk change product model?

Hi,
I need to change thousands of product models without changing the product number. I need to remove the last 3 or 4 characters from all of them.
I haven't found a way to do it without going item by item.
I've looked around and I can't find an easy way to do this.

I'm sure there is a sql command to do it, but that would be last resort.

Does anyone know of a program or add-on that could do this?

Either in Easy Populate advanced or in myphpadmin. You can export the store model field and edit in excel then update the live server.

Tried this in easy populate 1.3.9gp and it created new product numbers.

You think the easy populate advanced pay version will do it?

EPA allow you to use the product_id as index so you can change anything else in the product field without having to change the product_id. For instance you can have 10 products with the same model with no problems each one would be listed as a new product with different product_id.

Or export the table from myphpadmin in excel format and edit it then import it into database.
