Can I make a new category "hidden" to only allow "selected" customers to see it?

I am the webmaster for a store set-up with Zen Cart. The owner wants to set-up a "private or early-bird sale" for a few select customers so they can come-in to shop for newly released artwork, and hour or so before, the rest of the customers can.

I know that each customer can have their authorization status changed to allow for different levels of shopping experience, but it isn't practical for me to change the 100+ to something like ... May Browse but may not Buy ... and then have to manually change them all back when the private sale is over ?

Is there a way to make a new category "hidden" so that only a few "selected" customers can shop in it ?
