Product list html unique description

Okay I have been following this thread and been able to make my product description look pretty much how I want it, but I can see a problem in the future when some products might have longer descriptions and others might have shorter.

I have set character limit to 870 in configuration>product listing the problem I have is that if I make the character limit higher I will have parts of the description that I don't want showing.

Is there anyway of creating a product listing module that can just hold the product listing description them the main product page show full description?

As you can see further down the descriptions get longer.

I'm not 100% sure I understand the question, but you could wrap the part of each description you don't want to show on the product listing page in a <div> with a class name of, say, noshow, then turn it off in the stylesheet:

#productListing .noshow {display:none;}

There's no mod I know of that will let you specify the product description length by product.

The problem I'm facing is I want details descriptions in the product listings, I sell allot of computers so I want specifications and small illustration images. Some products will have longer descriptions than others, the problem is the the character description limit is 870 which is okay for now but some products need longer descriptions.

If i increase the character limit then the products with smaller description will show parts of the description that I dont want showing in the list.

I understand, I think. The method I described above should work, but you'll have to edit each description individually.

could add a new product field or several

description = holds short description which will show on product listing page and product info

description1 = only holds description you want to show on product info

or you could add several product fields

Operating System
Memory Type
Processor
Capacity
Warranty

and instead of calling the product description on product listing page call custom fields instead

this would be idea if you wanted to add the compare products mod down the road.

this will allow you to separate features & description so only description shows on product listing page
