    Default Can't Enable PayPal Express

I set up my shop using 1.3.8, but haven't been able to get PayPal to work properly (it will process a payment if a user isn't logged in, but if a user is logged in it times out).

Frustrated, I decided to upgrade to 1.3.9 in a new folder (following instructions carefully), using a copy of my database. I re-applied my template, plus five mods (slimbox_zencart_1.3.8_08042009, facebook_like_1.3.8_1.3.9ab, column_layout_grid_for_product_listing_1-3-8, categories_dressing_2-7-3 and big_royal_mail_2-3-8). None of these mods should effect PayPay.

My problem now is I can't get PayPal to enable. It says it is (it's set to true), but the button is still yellow and PayPal isn't among the payment methods. All details are exactly the same as my 1.3.8 version, which does show up in payment methods (even if it doesn't work). If the Express button is enabled, I get an HTTP Error 500 message regarding ipn_main_handler.php?type=ec when pressed.

Can someone help with either problem with PayPal? I just need to get one version working!

What's the error message that's recorded in the server's security logs where the cause of the "500" error is logged? You'll have to ask your hosting company for that information. Related article: https://www.zen-cart.com/tutorials/index.php?article=63

Did you happen to test PayPal Express in your clean 1.3.9 install *before* you copied your database over and installed all your mods and templates? Did it give you the error *then* too? Or was it only after you put your database and mods/template in that the problems started?

Hi DrByte, I realise now that I should have tested PayPal on my new install without any mods or my own data base. I guess I'll have to start again and test it at each stage to see what happens.

I'll email my hosting company to find out what problems are logged if it happens again and post back here.

    Back to it then...!
