    Default Permissions

In error when changing the permissions on the images folders I entered 077 instead of 777. I have not been able to edit the permission or delete the folder and it's become very frustrating. I even tried overwriting the folder but it didn't change.

How do I change the permission from 077 to 777?

I've googled my issue and received results about unmasking but I did not understand it. Would someone please help me out and explain how to change the permission from 077 to 777 (in the simplest terms possible)?

    Thanks in advance!

The first of the 3-digit permissions is the "User" permission, and when you set it to 0, you basically lock yourself out altogether.

    You have two options:
    1. Instead of using your FTP program to do it, try using your hosting company's File Manager in your webserver account's control panel.
    2. If that doesn't work, you WILL have to ask your hosting company to do it for you, since overriding your mistake will require top-level administrator access, which only the hosting company's senior staff will have access to.

I'd also check with your hosting provider if 777 is necessary. It often is not and just leaves access rights unnecessarily high. On many server set-ups, 755 will do just fine.
