    Default Google Analytics Question

    Hi,

I searched online for how to install analytics on Zen cart. Following the instructions, I entered the tracking code on tpl_main_page.php.

When entering analytics, it seems to be collecting data (for instance I see 15 new unique visitors since I installed it yesterda), but on the settings page it still says "tracking not installed". It also says it was last checked on Sept 8 though.

Anyway, I was wondering if this is indeed all that needs to be done, as I read on an alternative source that I should put the tracking code on html_header.php instead. Do I need to put it on both pages or is tpl_main_page enough?

Further, do I need to change any other settings to enable tracking of sales in analytics? When I visit the e-commerce section of analytics right now there is 0 data available but I don't think any sales have been made since I set it up. Will it track sales automatically once they occur?

I too read that bit, and then found the add-on (in the software add-ons) that does the insertion automatically - Simple Google Analytics

Installed easy - no issues - and it inserts the proper coding without having to edit any of the base php files.

It also has the areas needed for conversion tracking.

    Just a FYI.

Update: I installed simple analytics and gave it a few days to start tracking data. I'm getting information about the traffic to coming to my site fine, but the tracking status still says "not installed".

I am also getting 0 data in my ecommerce section, absolutely none of the sales being made are tracked. Anyone know why? I also changed it to "Yes, E-commerce site" in my profile settings as well.

In the Admin - Config - Google etc..

    There's two lines:

    - Activate Conversion Tracking:

    Set this to Yes

    - Google Tracking Conversion number:

This is the Adwords tracking that you create - not your account number - under Reporting and Tools / Conversion. When you're looking at the code snippet you'll see your 'conversion_id'

Mine still says 'unverified' but I think that's because I'm not using their entire code - just the id. anyone?

Edit: Forgot to mention that I did what you said and there's still no data being tracked (but I don't have an adwords campaign running yet)

Wouldn't this just track Google Adwords conversions? What if I wanted to track regular product sales?

Would I have to write a custom bit of javascript for that?
