Why does the description display twice?

I would try re-installing the product layout grid module to see if one of the the product listing files was somehow corrupted.

I'm not really sure how to do that, but I did make a Band-Aid. By setting the 'Display Product Description' to zero the double entries are gone and the description is showing up on the main product page.

Go to the free addons section and download the product layout grid module. Unzip it, read the installation instructions and install it on your site. You won't need to upload the sql patch. See if that removes the error.
