alternative to mod_expires?

my server doesn't have mod_expires installed as they are useless (1&1) ... didnt have gzip either

anyway, i am looking for an alternative to add expires to my media files that i can add as my google page speed score seems to be really hit due to this.

can anyone offer any advice?

just in case anyone else is having this problem i have used

<FilesMatch "\.(jpg|jpeg|png|gif|swf)$">
Header set Cache-Control "max-age=604800, public"
</FilesMatch>

which seems to satisfy enough until i change servers
