Default Special Characters not working for SMTPauth password

Certain special characters used in passwords for email fail.

    my email settings are SMTPauth

on my security policy of changing all passwords every 90 days, I used cPanels automated email feature to create a super strong password.

    it used characters ] } ~ _ | ! "

when I edited my ZC admin email setting to update, it broke the websites ability to send emails. Returning the dreaded white page of

"Email Error: SMTP Error: The following recipients failed: "

From my tests, not all of the special characters are allowed.
    ! works.

maybe a fix or a note on the emails setting page of what special characters are not allowed/allowed for 1.5 production release?

Using the latest v1.5.0, I just tested SMTPAUTH using the following password: a]}~_|!"gw
It immediately sent the email without errors, and arrived in the destination inbox within seconds.
I don't see where Zen Cart is imposing any limitations on any of the characters you mentioned.

Tested the same in v1.3.9h and encountered no problems there either.

Perhaps the remote server is rejecting your password for other reasons?

Maybe an issue with my host. Thanks for checking. On my live 1.3.9 site and my hosted 1.5 test site, when I make this email password contain lots of special characters it fails. But works if I limit it only to two to three special charters.

I will carry this over to my hosts forum.

    Thanks

p.s. the same overly complex passwords work in my email app and direct email via cPanel. Maybe I have screwed up somewhere.
