Default Testing the upgrade under xampp first. (No Products Showing)

I will soon be upgrading my live site from v1.3.8a to v1.3.9h, but I wanted to test it out first using xampp on my home box (Win7 64 bit.)

    1. I got xampp 1.7.7 to work properly.
    2. I created a database with the same name as my live site and populated it (imported) using my backup file.
    3. I copied my old site files to C:\xampp\htdocs\mystore.

(NOTE: The old site v1.3.8a fails to run under xampp due to an error about magic quotes not being compatible with this php version or something.) Oh well, I proceeded on with the upgrade testing...

    4. I copied the new v1.3.9h files/folders over top of the old files in C:\xampp\htdocs\mystore.
    5. I fired up the install routine using my browser.
    6. After making several adjustments to accommodate passwords and such, I managed to get the database upgraded and proceeded with the store configuration. All good so far.
    7. I deleted the install folder and changed the name of the admin folder.

Success! The new store runs but does not show any of the existing products. I can even log into admin panel, but still no sign of my products.

Does this mean it is not reading the database correctly when the store runs? Both configure.php files show the correct paths, db name, and password. However, I am using the xampp global user "root" and not the one from the original db.

    What gives?

I think the user settings i.e. root in this case is only relevant for getting access to reading the db files. Did you check the db tables in your newly created local SQL Database to ensure the products are there ?

No, the products are not there. In fact, I now see that only about 36 of the 98 tables have any data in them at all.

Also missing are categories, customers, past orders, meta tags, and the likes. It looks like the most common data that comes standard with the install is there, but data that is generally added by the store owner is not there.

Apparently my db upgrade has gone awry.

I tried again to upgrade the database with no luck. I kept having the same trouble...missing data. I then downloaded a fresh db backup from my live server and it upgraded correctly on the first attempt.

All is working now. All product data is present in the test site.

Hmm, the old db copy must have had some sort of glitch. Oh well. Sorry to waste your time. Thanks for the help.
