    Default CSS with Black Background

Have half finished a new site. All pages need black background. All is well and good EXCEPT: Pages which have "table headers" sich as: login- "returning customers," "company details" or checkout_payment and checkout_shipping headers "payment methods" "order comments" etc as Titles to the Boxes on the page DO NOT show these titles in White (The text is present but invisible black.)
I have made every css change i can think of and all <p> text renders OK but <h1> stays black.
I have tried playing with "define" pages to no avail.
I understand the overide hierarchy pretty well and dont think this is a problem.
I am so pleased with the site otherwise - in a different league entirely to a couple of commercially sold proprietary sites I have experienced!.
    Any ideas please.
Version is 1.3.9d but Ive cloned a couple of addon shipping bits, and the old cc module all of which work great.

It's always easier to advise on styling issues if we can see your site live.

No I havent - if you look at the home page log in - press "log yourself in" there are 3 or 4 white bordered boxes which all have the same problem - the top left hand border is incomplete because it is obscured by a "TABLE_HEADING which is defaulted to <h1> and SHOULD be White according to CSS but is actually Black. Same thing happens with similar pages in the Cart and Check out system. Ben

    I see (in Firefox):

all in white on the black background. What browser are you using? Have you cleared your cache to see if it is just an old view?

Thanks again - I am using IE8 and it doesnt work with this browser (obviously need it to do so as very common with client audience) also works FINE with Google Chrome! on my screen.
Have cleared cache including favourites etc. Does not work either on a seperate test laptop running Win 7 and IE8.
Seems to work for "Order Comments" on check_out_confirmation page but not for similar frames for "Order Comments" on previous "checkout_payment and _ shipping pages" I Note that in the page that works - "Order Comments" is DEFINED as HEADER_ - whereas in the pages that dont work it is defined as TABLE_HEADER...also HEADER_ is well defined as <h1> but I havent been able to find a specific Define page about TABLE_HEADER.. but presumed it would be covered somewhere or included as part of the SUB_HEADER... definition.
Obviously Firefox and Chrome can find it.
Must have clocked up about 4 days work on this.
    Appreciate any further ideas.

The PHP defines are irrelevant to whether a browser can properly handle the HTML output.
What matters is the type of element the defined text is output as, and the class/id tags that accompany it.
    Things like

are fieldset "legend" elements, and will be controlled by rules for legend or LEGEND.
