admin blank after upgrade

So I finally took the plunge and my admin is blank after the upgrade from 1.3.8a to 1.3.9d
I had it all working on my test site and I transfered all the files to the live site upgraded for the most recent database and the site is there although not correct front page.
Thanks for any help...thankfully I have copies of everything!

Any reason you upgraded to v1.3.9d when v1.3.9h is the current version?

I had started upgrading months ago when 1.3.9d was the most recent and could not find out how to make the database upgrade.
Well now I have completely screwed up. My entire site is down and I have uploaded 1.3.8a again and uploaded my saved database before the change and my site only comes to a 500 error.
I have no idea what to do now. Any help would be great. I will not be upgrading again myself as it just didn't work for some reason

Ok, if I start all over with a fresh install of 1.3.9h and use my old 1.3.8a database can I just upgrade the database? Is this my best option? I really need to get this site back up before google just fries me!

That would be a clean way to do it with an upgrade to the database ...

NOTE: make sure you keep a backup in case something goes all goobbered ...

So I deleted everything out of the html folder and uploaded a fresh 1.3.9h and I still am getting the 500 internal error. At this point I don't even know what else to do. Any ideas of why I can't even load the new install? I have searched through the forum but can't find anyone who has had this problem.
