Hide Sold Out button on Product Listing

I don't want the sold out button to appear on the product listing, only on the product page. Is this possible through the admin or do I need to customize code somewhere.

That seems like a good way to irritate potential customers.

It is what the client wants and whether we agree with them or not they are paying the bills.

Far as I know, you can't do it from admin. In a stock Zencart installation, the Sold Out image on the product listing is different from the image on the product info page, so you could change the product listing image to, say, 1px X 1px the same color as your background.
