They've apparently turned off the add-to-cart capability for the Products General product type ... Admin->Catalog/Products->Product Types->Product General->Edit->checkbox "This product can be added to cart" ... needs to be checked. Nothing else on that "edit' screen should be altered.

I had checked that Dr. Byte and it is ticked. Am combing thru the configuration settings to see what else I can find. Nothing worked so far though. mmm..

Is the store in Showcase mode? Or is it set to require customer authorization to see prices?
Has /includes/functions/functions_general.php been altered in any way?
Have they redefined any of these constants to blank strings?
