Thanks, I can't believe how many files that need to be changed.
Hostmonster is my server. I don't believe I can make a trial site first. I've already made a list of the files that are different using winmerge. Can I just copy the changed and additional extracted files into my website? From there I would make the necessary template changes.
Why not? Have you asked them about creating additional databases?If you upgrade your live site directly, then if something goes wrong your store will be broken until you fix it. If you're confident that you can fix things quickly yourself or having your store "down" until you fix it doesn't bother you, then feel free.
We would recommend that you install it in a second database+folder for "staging" before actually upgrading the live site itself.

Sure you can. Hostmonster allows more than one MySQL database, which is all you really need for building a test site.Hostmonster is my server. I don't believe I can make a trial site first.
